Overview
Egg Matchmove Study is a technical VFX exercise focused on integrating CG animation into a live-action image. Starting from a photograph of a real egg on a tabletop, I used camera matching in Maya to align the virtual camera and reconstruct a corresponding 3D environment based on the original lighting setup. I then modeled and shaded a digital egg to match the texture, form, and surface quality of the practical object.
To introduce motion and transformation into the still composition, I used Maya nCloth to simulate the egg collapsing from its original shape into a flattened form. The rendered passes were then brought into Nuke for compositing, where I refined the brightness, color, and layer balance to help the CG element blend more convincingly with the photographed plate. This project was created as a study of match-to-live-action workflow, realistic lighting response, simulation, and compositing.
