Overview

Abstract Geo Motion Studies is a pair of personal motion design experiments created in After Effects, focused on expression-driven animation and the visual potential of abstract geometric forms. Built around minimal graphic elements, the pieces explore how simple shapes can generate complex and rhythmically engaging motion through the controlled transformation of position, rotation, and scale.

A central focus of the project was the use of expressions in After Effects as a procedural alternative to manually keyframing every motion parameter. Rather than relying entirely on traditional animation workflows, I used expression-based setups to automate and coordinate the movement of multiple abstract forms, allowing the compositions to respond with greater consistency and structural complexity. Although the animation is built from only a limited number of transform properties, their combined interaction produces layered visual patterns that feel dynamic, intricate, and musically responsive.

Through this project, I began to explore how code-based logic within motion graphics can expand both efficiency and creative control inside After Effects. The work served as an introduction to expression-driven design, while also reinforcing my interest in abstract motion systems, rhythmic composition, and the relationship between simple graphic elements and more complex visual results.
