Overview
Holographic Arsenal is a personal project created as an exploration of hard-surface modeling, lighting, shading, and environmental storytelling within a stylized sci-fi interior. Inspired by the atmospheric visual language of Blade Runner 2049, the project was built around the contrast between a harsh, desolate world outside and a technologically advanced yet modest interior space. This contrast reflects the core cyberpunk idea of “high tech, low life,” using the room itself to suggest both the larger world beyond the walls and the character of its unseen occupant.
A central focus of the project was the design of a believable interior shaped by props, material choices, and implied narrative. I imagined the room as belonging to a police officer, which informed the placement and design of objects throughout the space, including disassembled firearms, a cleaning kit, and a holographic weapon display projected above the table. To further reinforce the project’s cinematic inspiration, I also incorporated a Blade Runner 2049 poster onto the monitor as a subtle visual homage. All assets in the scene, including the weapons, furniture, and architectural elements, were modeled by me as part of a broader study in hard-surface modeling and prop development.
Lighting and shader work played a major role in defining the final look of the project. I used warm yellow lighting to evoke the film’s iconic exterior haze, creating a strong visual contrast against the cooler technological elements inside the room. In Arnold, I also developed a semi-translucent white shader for the holographic projection, adjusting its properties to achieve a more convincing projected effect. Although the final result was presented as a short animated sequence with simple object motion, the project was primarily intended as a study of modeling, texturing, shading, and look development within a fully realized cinematic environment.
