Overview

SYFY x Blade Runner 2049 Rebrand is a speculative branding project developed around the premise of creating a promotional spot for SYFY tied to an existing film property. The goal of the piece was to combine recognizable footage from Blade Runner 2049 with a graphic language that could still feel aligned with SYFY’s brand identity, resulting in a rebrand concept that sits between trailer editing, network branding, and motion design.

The project began with research into the visual and thematic overlap between the SYFY brand and the world of Blade Runner 2049. From that process, I identified a set of core visual ideas—high technology, electronics, cyberpunk atmosphere, and mechanical texture—which became the foundation for the spot’s design direction. To translate those ideas into motion, I built the logo animation around glitch-based effects and used extensive masking techniques to integrate footage and graphic content directly within the logo forms, allowing the brand mark and cinematic imagery to interact throughout the piece.

In addition to editing film clips into the sequence, I also created an original opening animation inspired by the color palette and visual tone of Blade Runner 2049, using abstract blue imagery to establish a futuristic and technologically driven mood before the branded content appears. To maintain stylistic consistency across the full piece, I carried the glitch-based logo treatment through both the opening and closing moments of the video. The project served as an exploration of entertainment branding, title design, footage integration, and motion systems that connect an established brand identity with an existing cinematic world.
