Overview

After Midnight is a personal project created as an exploration of lighting, hard-surface modeling, and visual storytelling within a cyberpunk-inspired contemporary interior. Designed as a modern studio apartment belonging to a young woman in her twenties, the project focuses on the contrast between minimal architectural design and atmospheric neon illumination. The space was built to feel clean, modern, and highly stylized, while still suggesting an everyday lived-in environment shaped by personal habits and urban nightlife.

A central focus of the project was the relationship between form, material, and interior mood. The room was designed around a minimalist visual language, with furniture, wall surfaces, frames, monitors, and larger structural elements all following a clean, rectilinear design. To reinforce the sense of brightness and spatial clarity, I used a large number of white surfaces throughout the room, including the desk, walls, and bedding. At the same time, small environmental details—such as partially open drawers, shoes left casually on the bed, illuminated computer screens, and the overall arrangement of personal objects—were used to imply the presence and personality of the unseen occupant.

Lighting played the defining role in shaping the final look of the project. I developed the scene around blue and pink LED strip lighting placed along the lower edges of the walls, then combined their emissive glow with matching area lights to create the impression that the room was largely illuminated by the integrated lighting design itself. A spotlight was also assigned to the floor lamp in the corner to provide additional directional control within the composition. The result was intended not only as an exercise in cyberpunk-inspired look development, but also as a study of how lighting, materials, and prop design can work together to establish atmosphere and character within a cohesive interior.

The room layout and environmental design developed in this project were later carried forward into A Typical Day in Summer.
